Command (USS Eventide Primary Manifest)
The Command Department is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and strategic direction of USS Eventide. Led by the Commanding Officer and Executive Officer, the department oversees mission planning, crew readiness, resource allocation, and the execution of Starfleet objectives. In an environment where established protocols may not always provide answers, Command personnel are tasked with balancing scientific curiosity, crew safety, and the Federation's ideals while guiding the ship through the unknown.
Commanding Officer Ultimately responsible for the ship and crew, the Commanding Officer is the most senior officer aboard a vessel. S/he is responsible for carrying out the orders of Starfleet, and for representing both Starfleet and the Federation. Executive Officer The liaison between captain and crew, the Executive Officer acts as the disciplinarian, personnel manager, advisor to the captain, and much more. S/he is also one of only two officers, along with the Chief Medical Officer, that can remove a Commanding Officer from duty. Chief of the Boat The senior-most Chief Petty Officer (including Senior and Master Chiefs), regardless of rating, is designated by the Commanding Officer as the Chief of the Boat (for vessels) or Command Chief (for starbases). In addition to his or her departmental responsibilities, the COB/CC performs the following duties: serves as a liaison between the Commanding Officer (or Executive Officer) and the enlisted crewmen; ensures enlisted crews understand Command policies; advises the Commanding Officer and Executive Officer regarding enlisted morale, and evaluates the quality of noncommissioned officer leadership, management, and supervisory training.
The COB/CC works with the other department heads, Chiefs, supervisors, and crewmen to insure discipline is equitably maintained, and the welfare, morale, and health needs of the enlisted personnel are met. The COB/CC is qualified to temporarily act as Commanding or Executive Officer if so ordered. -
Astrogation (USS Eventide Primary Manifest)
The Astrogation Department is responsible for navigation, stellar cartography, and the safe passage of USS Eventide through uncharted regions of space. Combining the functions of navigator, cartographer, and exploratory planner, astrogation officers chart new routes, analyze gravitational and subspace conditions, and maintain the ship's growing database of astronomical knowledge. Their work allows Eventide to travel where no Federation vessel has gone before.
Chief Astrogation Officer Head of the Astrogation Department and senior advisor on navigation, stellar cartography, and exploratory route planning. Responsible for charting the ship's course through known and unknown regions of space. Astrogation Officer Conducts navigation calculations, analyzes gravitational and subspace conditions, and develops safe travel routes through uncharted territory. Astrogation Officers serve as the department's primary navigators. Stellar Cartographer Responsible for mapping newly discovered star systems, nebulae, and spatial phenomena. Maintains and updates the ship's astronomical databases and navigational charts. Flight Control Officer Responsible for direct helm control during routine operations, maneuvers, and shuttle operations. While Astrogation determines where the ship should go, Flight Control is responsible for getting it there safely. Survey Analyst Processes long-range sensor data to identify astronomical features, potential destinations, and scientific points of interest. Works closely with both Science and Astrogation personnel. -
Armoury (USS Eventide Primary Manifest)
The Armoury Department is responsible for the safety and security of USS Eventide, its crew, and its mission. While the vessel is lightly armed by Starfleet standards, Armory personnel are trained in tactical operations, small-unit field security, hazard response, and the protection of away teams operating in unknown environments. Whether escorting scientific expeditions, securing archaeological sites, or responding to unforeseen threats, the department ensures that exploration can continue safely.
Chief Armory Officer The senior officer responsible for all weapons systems aboard ship, including phasers, photon torpedoes, and personal arms. Oversees safety protocols, maintenance schedules, tactical readiness, and coordination with Security and Tactical during alert conditions. Armory Officer A general-duty technician trained in the maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of standard-issue Starfleet weapons systems. Often cross-trained to assist with both shipboard armaments and away team equipment. Payload Systems Technician A minimal but important role on a science vessel. Maintains photon torpedo systems, but with an emphasis on storage safety, long-term stability, and rare deployment readiness rather than combat tempo. Often doubles as ordnance historian/logkeeper. Master-at-Arms The Master-at-Arms trains and supervises Armory crewmen in departmental operations, repairs, and protocols; maintains duty assignments for all Armoury personnel; supervises weapons locker access and firearm deployment; and is qualified to temporarily act as Chief Armoury Officer if so ordered. -
Engineering (USS Eventide Primary Manifest)
The Engineering Department is responsible for maintaining and operating the systems that allow USS Eventide to venture far beyond Federation support. From warp propulsion and power generation to life support and structural integrity, engineers ensure the ship remains self-sufficient during extended deployments. In deep space, where no starbase is waiting over the next horizon, ingenuity, adaptability, and problem-solving are often as important as technical expertise.
Chief Engineer The senior officer responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of all shipboard engineering systems. Oversees the warp core, propulsion systems, structural integrity, power distribution, and technical personnel throughout the ship. Assistant Chief Engineer Assists the Chief Engineer in managing departmental operations and assumes command of Engineering in their absence. Often coordinates large repair efforts, maintenance schedules, and interdepartmental projects. Engineering Officer There are several non-specialized engineers aboard of each vessel. They are assigned to their duties by the Chief Engineer and his Assistant, performing a number of different tasks as required, i.e. general maintenance and repair. Generally, engineers as assigned to more specialized engineering person to assist in there work is so requested by the specialized engineer. Engineering Technician The department's hands-on maintenance personnel. Conduct inspections, replace components, troubleshoot equipment failures, and assist engineers with repairs and installations. Warp Systems Engineer Specializes in warp propulsion, matter-antimatter reactions, plasma flow systems, and warp field generation. Responsible for maintaining the ship's primary means of faster-than-light travel. Impulse Systems Engineer Maintains and operates impulse engines, reaction control systems, and sublight propulsion equipment. Works closely with Helm and Operations to ensure precise maneuverability. Transporter Systems Officer Maintains transporter rooms, pattern buffers, and matter transmission systems. Also supports cargo transport and emergency evacuation procedures. Damage Control Specialist The Damage Control Specialist is a specialized Engineer. The Damage Control Specialist controls all damage control aboard the ship when it gets damaged in battle. S/he oversees all damage repair aboard the ship, and coordinates repair teams on the smaller jobs so the Chief Engineer can worry about other matters.
A small team is assigned to the Damage Control Specialist which is made up from NCO personnel assigned by the Assistant and Chief Engineer. The Damage Control Specialist reports to the Assistant and Chief Engineer. -
Sciences (USS Eventide Primary Manifest)
The Sciences Division serves as the intellectual heart of USS Eventide. Comprised of numerous scientific disciplines and research teams, the division is responsible for investigating new phenomena, conducting exploratory research, analyzing discoveries, and expanding the Federation's understanding of the universe. Unlike traditional Starfleet departments, the Sciences Division is organized into specialized subdepartments led by subject matter experts. The Chief Science Officer coordinates these teams, establishes research priorities, and serves as the primary liaison between the scientific staff and the ship's command structure.
Chief Science Officer The Chief Science Officer serves as the senior representative of the Sciences Division and principal scientific advisor to the Commanding Officer. Unlike many Starfleet vessels, USS Eventide's scientific staff is organized into multiple specialized disciplines, each led by subject matter experts. The Chief Science Officer coordinates the activities of these teams, establishes research priorities, manages scientific resources, and ensures that discoveries are properly evaluated and shared across departments. Acting as a bridge between the scientific community and the command staff, the CSciO must balance intellectual curiosity with operational realities while guiding the ship's overall research mission. Science Officer There are several general Science Officers aboard each vessel. They are assigned to their duties by the Chief Science Officer and his Assistant. Assignments include work for the Specialized Section heads, as well as duties for work being carried out by the Chief. -
Astrophysics
Studies stars, stellar evolution, nebulae, black holes, gravitational phenomena, and other large-scale cosmic structures.
Astrophysicist Astrophysicists investigate the physical properties and behavior of stars, planetary systems, interstellar matter, and cosmic phenomena. They analyze sensor data, conduct research, develop theoretical models, and assist in the interpretation of unusual astronomical discoveries. Whether studying a previously unknown stellar formation or attempting to explain a phenomenon that defies conventional science, Astrophysicists help expand humanity's understanding of the universe. -
Exobiology
Dedicated to the study of extraterrestrial life and biological ecosystems.
Exobiologist Exobiologists study the biology, ecology, and evolution of alien organisms and environments. They conduct field research, analyze biological samples, and investigate how life adapts to conditions far different from those found on Federation worlds. Their work helps the crew better understand newly discovered ecosystems and provides valuable insight into the diversity of life throughout the galaxy and beyond. -
Archaeology & Anthropology
Investigates ancient civilizations, cultural development, historical artifacts, and first-contact societies.
Archaeologist Archaeologists investigate the physical remains of past civilizations, seeking to understand the people who came before through the artifacts, structures, technology, and records they left behind. Their work may involve surveying ancient ruins, excavating archaeological sites, analyzing recovered objects, and reconstructing the histories of long-forgotten cultures. Aboard USS Eventide, Archaeologists often find themselves at the forefront of discovery, helping the crew uncover the stories hidden within abandoned worlds, lost settlements, and the remnants of civilizations that may have vanished long before the Federation existed. Anthropologist Anthropologists study living cultures, social systems, belief structures, traditions, and the ways intelligent species understand themselves and their place in the universe. Working closely with Communications, Mission Specialists, and Command personnel, they help interpret cultural behavior, advise on first-contact situations, and provide insight into unfamiliar societies. Whether observing a newly encountered civilization or helping the crew navigate complex intercultural interactions, Anthropologists seek to understand not only how societies function, but why they develop the values, customs, and identities that define them. -
Planetary Sciences
Focuses on planetary formation, geology, atmospheric systems, and environmental conditions.
Planetary Scientist Planetary Scientists investigate the formation, composition, and environmental characteristics of planetary bodies. They analyze geological structures, atmospheric conditions, weather systems, and mineral resources while helping to assess habitability and scientific value. Their work frequently supports both exploratory and operational objectives, particularly when the ship encounters worlds unlike anything previously catalogued by Federation science. -
Subspace Physics
Studies subspace phenomena, warp field interactions, temporal anomalies, and theoretical physics.
Subspace Physicist Subspace Physicists investigate anomalies, energy fields, spatial distortions, and other phenomena associated with the underlying fabric of space and subspace. Their work frequently involves the development of theoretical explanations for events that cannot be readily explained by known science. Whether analyzing a strange energy signature or attempting to understand a previously unseen phenomenon, they help push the boundaries of Federation scientific knowledge.

Medical (USS Eventide Primary Manifest)
The Medical Department safeguards the physical and psychological well-being of the crew during long-duration exploratory missions. In addition to providing routine healthcare and emergency treatment, medical personnel monitor the effects of isolation, unfamiliar environments, and first-contact encounters on the crew. They also play a vital role in xenobiological research and the study of newly discovered lifeforms, often working closely with the Science Department.
Chief Medical Officer The Chief Medical Officer is responsible for the physical and psychological well-being of USS Eventide's crew. As head of the Medical Department, the CMO oversees all medical operations aboard the vessel, develops health and safety protocols, advises the command staff on biological and environmental hazards, and ensures the crew remains fit for extended exploratory operations. Beyond routine medicine, the position often requires balancing patient care with scientific investigation as the ship encounters unfamiliar lifeforms, environments, and medical challenges far beyond the reach of Federation support. Counselor Counselors provide confidential emotional and psychological support to crew members while helping individuals and teams adapt to the demands of deep-space exploration. They assist personnel coping with stress, loss, conflict, and prolonged separation from home, while also contributing to mission planning where social, cultural, or behavioral considerations may influence outcomes. Their work helps maintain the resilience and cohesion necessary for successful long-term operations.
The Counselor reports to the Chief Medical Officer.Medical Officer Medical Officers provide primary healthcare services to the crew, including diagnosis, treatment, emergency medicine, and preventative care. They respond to injuries and illnesses, conduct medical examinations, and assist with away missions where environmental or biological hazards may be present. Operating far from established medical facilities, Medical Officers must be prepared to handle a wide variety of situations while adapting to conditions that may have no precedent in Federation medical literature. Nurse Nurses provide day-to-day patient care and support throughout the Medical Department. They monitor patients, administer treatments, assist during procedures, and help maintain the smooth operation of Sickbay. Often serving as the first point of contact for crew members seeking medical assistance, nurses play a vital role in maintaining both the health of the crew and the effectiveness of the department as a whole. Medical Technician Medical Technicians assist physicians and specialists by operating diagnostic equipment, maintaining medical systems, managing laboratory functions, and supporting emergency response efforts. Their broad technical knowledge allows the department to function efficiently during routine operations as well as crisis situations. On a vessel where resources may be limited and outside assistance unavailable, their versatility often proves invaluable. -
Communications (USS Eventide Primary Manifest)
The Communications Department is responsible for maintaining USS Eventide's connection to the wider galaxy. Beyond managing long-range communications and subspace transmissions, communications specialists analyze unknown signals, develop translation matrices for new languages, and assist in first-contact operations. As Eventide ventures farther from known space, the department often serves as the crew's first point of contact with the civilizations, phenomena, and mysteries they encounter.
Chief Communications Officer The Chief Communications Officer oversees all communications systems aboard USS Eventide and serves as the ship's senior advisor on matters involving communication, language interpretation, signal analysis, and information exchange. As the vessel ventures farther from Federation space, the department is often responsible for maintaining long-range contact with Starfleet, analyzing unusual transmissions, and supporting first-contact operations. The CCO coordinates communication strategies between departments and ensures that vital information can be transmitted, received, and understood regardless of distance or circumstance. Communications Officer Communications Officers operate and maintain the ship's communications systems while managing routine and priority traffic between USS Eventide, Starfleet, and other vessels or installations. They monitor subspace frequencies, coordinate transmissions, assist in emergency communications, and support diplomatic and scientific operations requiring accurate information exchange. Their role often extends beyond simple message handling, particularly when operating in regions where communication itself may present unique challenges. -
Operations (USS Eventide Primary Manifest)
The Operations Department serves as the logistical backbone of USS Eventide, overseeing computer systems, cargo and supply management, resource allocation, power distribution outside of Engineering, and the coordination of away missions. Acting as a central link between departments, Operations personnel ensure that the ship's scientific, medical, engineering, and exploratory efforts are properly supported while managing the practical challenges of operating independently far beyond Federation resupply and support.
Chief Operations Officer The Chief Operations Officer oversees the logistical, administrative, and resource-management functions of USS Eventide. Responsible for coordinating activities between departments, managing mission support requirements, and advising the command staff on operational readiness, the COpsO ensures that the ship's scientific ambitions remain achievable within the realities of available personnel, equipment, and supplies. On a vessel operating months or years beyond Federation support, the Chief Operations Officer plays a critical role in balancing mission objectives against the practical demands of survival and sustainability. Operations Officer Operations Officers coordinate the day-to-day activities that keep USS Eventide functioning efficiently. They monitor resource consumption, assist with mission planning, manage departmental requests, and help ensure that personnel, equipment, and supplies are available where and when they are needed. Working closely with every department aboard the vessel, Operations Officers help transform exploration plans into practical action. Logistics Officer Logistics Officers are responsible for the acquisition, storage, distribution, and tracking of the supplies that sustain the ship's mission. From scientific equipment and spare parts to food stores and emergency provisions, they ensure that resources are used effectively and remain available when needed. Operating far beyond established supply networks, Logistics Officers must constantly balance current needs against future uncertainty. Quartermaster The Quartermaster manages cargo inventories, equipment issue, storage facilities, and material accountability throughout the vessel. They maintain records of shipboard assets, oversee cargo transfers, and ensure that departments have access to the tools and supplies required for their duties. On long-duration exploratory missions, effective inventory management can be as important to mission success as any scientific breakthrough. Resource Management Specialist Resource Management Specialists analyze consumption trends and oversee the allocation of critical shipboard resources such as food, water, energy reserves, medical supplies, and scientific materials. Their responsibility is to help ensure that USS Eventide can continue operating effectively despite prolonged isolation and uncertain opportunities for resupply. Steward Stewards are responsible for food services, galley operations, and the management of communal living support functions aboard USS Eventide. While often overlooked, their work plays a significant role in maintaining crew morale and quality of life during lengthy deployments. In an environment where the next resupply may be years away, efficient stewardship of food resources is essential to the success of the mission. -

Mission Specialists are civilian and Starfleet experts assigned to USS Eventide for their unique knowledge and experience. Drawn from fields such as archaeology, anthropology, linguistics, exobiology, and theoretical physics, they provide expertise beyond the scope of traditional Starfleet departments. Their presence reflects the ship's role as an exploratory expedition, where understanding the unknown is often as important as surviving it.
Senior Mission Specialist Senior Mission Specialists are highly experienced experts who serve as principal advisors within their fields of study. Often recognized authorities in their disciplines, they may lead specialized research projects, coordinate teams of specialists, and advise both the command staff and departmental leadership on matters related to their expertise. Their knowledge is frequently sought during first-contact situations, archaeological investigations, scientific anomalies, and other circumstances where conventional Starfleet experience may offer limited guidance. Expeditionary Research Fellow Expeditionary Research Fellows are civilian scholars, researchers, and academics assigned to USS Eventide to pursue specific studies or investigations. While not part of the vessel's permanent crew structure, they contribute specialized knowledge and often work alongside multiple departments. Their projects may range from cultural and historical research to theoretical scientific investigations that support the ship's broader mission of exploration and discovery. Historical Consultant Historical Consultants specialize in the interpretation of historical records, artifacts, traditions, and long-term cultural development. Their expertise is often employed during archaeological investigations, the study of extinct civilizations, and the analysis of recovered archives or historical documents. By placing discoveries within their broader historical context, they help the crew understand not only what happened in the past, but why it matters in the present. Field Specialist Field Specialists are experts whose skills are required for a particular mission, environment, or investigation. Their backgrounds may vary widely, encompassing disciplines such as archaeology, geology, ecology, linguistics, engineering, cartography, or countless other fields. Assigned according to mission requirements, they frequently accompany away teams and provide practical expertise in situations where specialized knowledge is essential. -
Civilians (USS Eventide Primary Manifest)
Civilians play an important role in Starfleet. Many civilian specialists across a number of fields work on occasion with Starfleet personnel as a Mission Specialist. In other cases, extra ship and station duties, such as running the ship's lounge, are outsourced to a civilian contract.
Chef Responsible for preparing all meals served in the Mess Hall and for the food during any diplomatic functions that may be held onboard.
